By the time I came to The Edge I had been trying to lose weight for almost 2 years. I'd tried intense exercise and faddy diets that left me starving but no lighter. Having trained hard in college and eaten well I'd changed overnight when I started working to a lifestyle of long hours, no exercise and fast foods eaten at the wrong times. I put on the weight really fast, in under a year and once it went on, it stayed put for 3 years.

When I went to Dave it was 5 months before my wedding. I hadn't bought a wedding dress as I didn't want to order it in the size I was but I was getting very close to the date. Dave was brutally honest. He told me I needed to totally overhaul my approach to food and exercise. He drew up a personalised food and exercise plan for me and checked in regularly to see how I was getting on. He doesn't accept excuses because he knows that if you follow his programe you end up lean, strong and healthy and it is that simple.  I quickly realised that If I didn't perform and follow the programme he would stop training me! 

Adjusting to a new way of eating and exercise wasn't as hard as I'd expected, once I got results I felt really motivated. Looking better in clothes, feeling healthier, compliments from colleagues, family and friends strengthened my resolve to stick to it. Most things in life are habit and once you form new ones your body just adjusts.

In 5 months I lost 3.5 stone. I dropped 4 dress sizes and I felt amazing on our wedding day.

 

 

 

For anyone who wants to try but is embarrassed or afraid, the best advice I can give is to just pick up the phone or drop in. The lads in The Edge

all love what they do and have a passion for health and fitness that is infectious and really motivational. I came looking for weight loss, I got that and a lot more besides: a healthier, fitter me.

People often ask why I still go to a personal trainer mainly due to the cost. For me it's very simple, the cost of a session is a the same as a night out and the training is better for me. It may mean I buy less clothes but I look better in the ones I have. Fitness and health is a lifelong priority for me now and I couldn't imaging returning to my old habits. I benefit from Dave's ongoing research every week.He's constantly tweaking my programme, challenging my fitness andmaking       me aware of nutritional facts that help me improve the way I eat and train.

As a singer and dancer I found myself struggling with injuries and niggles. I weighed 13 stone and was only 8 weeks away from playing the lead role in a six part TV comedy. I was told that television adds 10 pounds, so I gave up eating televisions! More importantly than that, I trained 3 days a week for those 8 weeks and on the first day of shooting the show I weighed 11 stone. Not only did I feel and look great, but I had the energy to film six days a week for the six weeks of the shoot. 'Personal trainer' is too small a term to describe David Mulqueen. He is more like a magician. He made 2 stone disappear from me in the blink of an eye. My girlfriend was so impressed she began training at The Edge herself in preparation for our wedding.

When I started with The Edge in Clontarf I was a 20 stone couch potato that could not do one push up or run 100 yards. Ciaran started me off on a exercise routine with a nutritional plan. In the beginning I found it difficult to do more than 200 metres warm up on the rowing machine. After 12 weeks of carefully monitored training and an eating plan I dropped almost 4 stone. My fitness levels soared as did my energy levels. Ciaran varied the training and always made it interesting. Training with the team in The Edge is like training with your best friends. All trainers are encouraging and there is always a great laugh to be had too. Motivation is also a great key to their success.

Now 6 months later. My life has changed, I train 5 – 6 times per week. My weight is still decreasing. I am leaner and my energy levels are higher now than when I was in my 20’s

I cannot credit the Edge high enough. All the guys know their stuff. They have a fantastic understanding of the human body and how it works and anyone looking to train properly and get the best results should look no further than The Edge

I came to the Edge: Clontarf in june 2009 with the goal of increasing lean muscle mass, dropping unwanted bodyfat and increasing his relative strength needed for rugby. Anobsticle that I had to work around was that I had broke my ulna a month beforehand playing rugby. I was given a sport specific program with my goals in mind and also my injury taken into account. Within 3 weeks on my program the results were very visible, my bodyfat dropped from 14.4% to 7.99%, my strength had gone up and my arm was in alot better shape.

3 months into his program at The Edge: Clontarf John was at 4.7% bodyfat and increased hos lean mass by 6.2kg.

I have been attending The EDGE gym with Ciaran Mulqueen as my personal coach for 6 months and am absolutely delighted with the results. My original aim was to tone up ahead of a big event I was due to attend in June. Ciaran devised a well planned, targetted series of excersises and the results were so good I have continued attending the gym and now see it as an integral part of my fitness regime. I have tried many different kinds of excersise throughout my life but up until my husband recommended The Edge to me last March, I had never worked using weights and the many other machines you find in a gym. This was due to a fear of 'bulking up' and also being a little bit intimidated by all the gears, weights and levers. Ciaran has totally changed my view and I now see gym work as the excersise that will tone your body (by lowering body fat) and improve overall fitness more efficiently than any other excersise. He is professional, personable also extremely knowledgeable about diet and the muscular system. Over 7 years ago I started training with Dave Mulqueen as a result of an injury and under his expert and knowledge I have gone from strength and strength. It was the best decision I ever made.

Training with Dave is not just about lifting weights- although an important part, it is a lifestyle change.  In conjunction with the training Dave has provided me with excellent nutritional advice. As a result I have a very healthy well balance diet that allows me to eat with a good variety of food and even allow for 'treat days'.

After all these years training with Dave I continue to make progress- not only maintaining what I have achieved but improving on in it-body fat below 12 percent, increased lean muscle, stronger and healthier.  With Dave's guidance I have no motivational problem's when it comes to training.

7 years ago I weighed 135 kilos and smoked approximately 40 cigarettes per day, I obviously had no energy and my health was anything but good. I was taking medication for both my heart and my stomach. I decided I had to do something about the weight as it was going up at a huge rate. The first thing I did was to stop smoking and I joined Westpoint gym in Blanchardstown, within 3 months I lost approximately 10 kilos but then it slowed dramatically. I kept up the training there for another year or so before changing to Westwood in Clontarf and there I met David Mulqueen and decided to start doing personal training with David, this was definitely the best thing I have done in a long time as not only did he totally transform my body he gave me a total new attitude on my life. Within 3 months of training with David I dropped from 120 kilos to 102 kilos so when David and James decided to open The Edge there was absolutely no thought needed about following the guys there. The Edge is not just a gym where people go to train but there is a really friendly atmosphere there where everyone helps and encourages each other. David and James are two of the nicest guys you could meet and I would encourage anyone that not only wants to lose weight and look better but also to give yourself a whole new attitude on life to go and meet these guys and start training in The Edge.

I have been training with Stephen for over a year, in that time we have concentrated on the key elements of dead lift, bench press and back squat. I weighed in at 114kg and now I am at 97kg, the goal is to get to 90kg.  As the weight suggest, I was not in any great physical shape when I walked in.  Over the first few months we stated doing a lot of cardio based exercise and gradually moved onto the weights.  The training in the Edge is different from your usual gym sessions that you go to in big complexes, it is much more focused, even for 30 minutes sessions and there is no let up.  Steve explains all the exercises as we go.  As I started to enjoy doing the heavy weights Steve set out some goals for me to aim for, we agreed the following goals for single lifts were to dead lift 180kg, bench press over 100kg and to back squat 140kg. 

My favourite exercise is the back squat and for some reason, it works for me We started lifting 60kg and we are now on our way to 150kg, roll on 200kg!   My overall conditioning has improved all round and I feel ready to take on new challenges. 

At times it has been a struggle and you seriously wonder why your paying these guys to inflict such pain on you, but you soon feel the benefits.  Especially in these stressful times, I enjoy looking forward to going to Steve at the Edge.  All the exercise has helped reduce my stress levels and improved my concentration in work.

Since going to Steve at The Edge I have almost halved my body fat. I have toned up around my stomach and built muscle all over my body. I had been going to the gym for years but with Steve I have seen real results quickly and regularly been set new challenges. Steve has an extensive knowledge of training. He has taught me how to train correctly and shown me many exercise programs which I can use for life.
